India’s largest carmaker has even gone ahead to promote the new car on huge billboards and adverts with the punchline “Live life with LUV”. The Ertiga is coming when Maruti has closed 2011-12 battered and bruised – its market share has fallen below the 40 percent mark for the first time in memory. Though the decline (it was about 44 percent in the previous fiscal) was largely attributed to production constraints for much of the year, some of it is also because of sales remaining lukewarm in critical models such as the Alto.

Investors appear to have responded in kind too, with Maruti stocks having surged 9.3 per cent since the launch of Ertiga on April 12, versus a 2 per cent gain in the broader Nifty index, after analysts cited the competitive pricing for the model.

Maruti Suzuki needed to find new avenues to keep its leadership position, especially considering the fact that its market share in the Indian passenger vehicles segment, which stood at 26.18 lakh units, went down to 38.44 per cent last financial year.

Thus came the LUV – ‘Life Utility Vehicle’ – in the form of a seven-seater van Ertiga.

The company said the MPV segment had emerged as the fastest growing sub-segment among utility vehicles market that also includes jeeps and crossovers and Ertiga will help consolidate its position in the domestic market.

“Utility vehicles are a promising segment, and we have been largely absent from here so far. We are giving customers an option to upgrade to a new flexible vehicle without limitations of size or flexibility of a sedan,” Maruti MD & CEO S Nakanishi told reporters in Delhi on the launch of the new offering.

Its third major offering in the domestic market Ertiga developed at the cost of 410 crore is its first major attempt to tap growth from new segments.

Ertiga will be available in both 1.4 litre petrol engine at the price band of 5.89 lakh to 7.30 lakh and 1.3 litre diesel that will cost 7.30 lakh and going up to 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The ARAI certified fuel efficiency is 16.02 kmpl (petrol) and 20.77 kmpl (diesel).

Designed in Japan, Ertiga has been first launched in India and will be soon made available in South East Asia. It aspires to take on similar offerings like Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and Tata Motors Winger.

While Innova is priced between 9.14 lakh to 13.59 lakh and Xylo comes at a range of 7.47 lakh to 10.47 lakh the Tata Motors Winger starts at 7 lakh onwards.

The 26 year old who appeared in 404 (horror movie) last year was kidnapped by her lover and his friend after she boasted to belong from a rich background from Dehra Dun. Preeti Surin (lover) and Amit Jaiswal are the two accused who were also fellow actors with Meenakshi.

According to police, Amit Jaiswal and his girlfriend Preeti Surin allegedly lured Thapar on a trip with them to Gorakhpur, a small town known for its Buddhist temple.They demanded 1,500,000 Rupees (approximately $28,000) from her parents as ransom but Thapar’s mother only gave them 60,000 Rupees (about $1,150). Evidently deciding it was not enough, the couple reportedly strangled and beheaded Thapar.

During the trip, however, the duo reportedly held Thapar hostage and threatened her mother that they would force Thapar to do pornography if their demands were not met.

Her mother paid 60,000 rupees (about $1,150) but never saw her daughter again.

Instead, according to the report, the couple strangled and beheaded Thapar and dumped her torso in a water tank before throwing her head out of a bus window.

Jaiswal and Surin have been apprehended by authorities and reportedly confessed to the murder. Irked with the poor step of her mother, the two strangled her to death and later beheaded her and threw the torse in a water tank and dumped her head in a bag en route Mumbai. Jaiswal and Surin were detained on behalf of “possession of her mobile phone” post which they confessed of carrying out the horrific murder.
