2002 Godhra Kand Case to be Pronounced on March 1

Prosecutors on Friday sought the death penalty for all 31 inmates in the Godhra train carnage case in a special court here, which is reserved for March 1st delivery of the quantum of punishment for them.

Appointed judge PR Patel heard the prosecutor and the prisoners inside the Sabarmati Jail here on the quantum of punishment and had reserved the order for next Tuesday.

Defence lawyers AD Shah said the judge has heard the inmates, who have applied for leniency in their sentences.

The defendant has been convicted under IPC 147 ยง, 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 323, 324, 325, 326 (injury), 153a (promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds), various sections of Indian Railways Act, Prevention of damage to public property and the law of Bombay Police Act.
